Playing God (2005 - )
A visual poem that everyone can read. An ode to our Mother and a nod to our insignificance. By shifting the scales, and depicting the larger whole, we can have a more critical comparison of the human existence to magnitude of our environment. I am fascinated by mankind’s impulse to tame the wild; from mega-structures that violently alter ecosystems to footpaths that line the Grand Canyon. My ontological anxiety has encouraged me to exercise my long forgotten right to have fun with the impossible - a visual confrontation of our insignificance. I like to think of it as Playing God.
“We breathe air exhaled from trees whose leaves are made of starlight… Our veins echo the patterns of rivers, branches, and root systems. We are not a part of Nature. We are Nature.” - Marysia Miernowska
